KOMIKON 2009 Concluded

The Hottest Komiks Event This Summer, KOMIKON 2009 Summer Fiesta recently concluded Last Saturday May 16, 2009 in UP Bahay ng Alumni. This event is organized by the Artists' Den, UP LunaRock and UP Engineering Society for artists, hobbyists and art enthusiasts alike. They can get to meet in the flesh the people behind there favorite Filipino Komiks such as Pugad Baboy, Kiko Machine Komix and Kubori Kikiam to name a few.

Within The Bahay ng Alumni, different booths were put up for different participants to showcase what they offer. Some of the familiar participants are “TV 5, shake mo TV mo”, Uno Magazine, Enchanted Kingdom, Dream 106.7, Psicom, Comic Odyssey, Philstar.com, cscentral.com, Creative Voices etc.

Jack TV covered the event and sponsored a Comic Strip Making Contest and Pin-up Making Contest.Palarong Pinoy were played on stage during the early part of the event and The first ever Komikon Idol was competed on by attendees with talent in videoke.

Some booths were reserved for the publishing companies to sell copies of the respective comics, most of the artists were on there booths to sign autographs upon buying their proud work. Some of the artists present are Manix Abrera (Kiko Machine), Pol Medina Jr. (Pugad Baboy), Gio Paredes (Kalayaan), Carlo Veraga (Zhazha Saturna), Gerry Alanguilan (Elmer), Lyndon Gregorio (Beerkada), Michael David (Kubori Kikiam), Wilson Tortosa (Wolverine: Prodigal Son). (*spare us if we forgot to mention names).

You can have your face sketched by veteran artists for free or donation. A
lso you can buy a copy of their beautifully drawn portfolios on the said booth.

There are booths who sell copy of your well loved anime from the past up to the present. The variety ranges from the early 90’s Laser Squadron Maskman to the most recent Power Rangers or anime like Bleach. For card players, Philippine Underground Gamers Society (PUGS) can teach you how to play card games like Legend of the Five Rings or the latest card game in the market “Fight Klub” where you can play hero as Ramboo or Horrific like Hannibal Lector. Online Gamers can sign up in Bangu-Bang “The first Philippine-made online fighting game”. Tarot card reading is also available. Stuff toys, foods, cute hats, posters and accessories can be purchased on the event aswell. All throughout the event, some participating artist are scheduled to have a brief talk on stage for the attendees to have the opportunity to ask questions.

All in all the KOMIKON 2009 Summer Fiesta was a smashing success. A lot of comic enthusiasts get to have good quality works of art that they all love to read, collect, and be inspired with. To shake the hands of those who serve as a role model for aspiring artists and admiring art colleagues. CONGRATULATIONS KOMIKON for a wonderful event!
